For thousands of years, potters have turned to the earth beneath their feet to create beautiful, lasting works. In this immersive week-long workshop, artist and wild clay expert Takuro Shibata invites you to dig deep—literally and creatively—into the world of wild clay. You’ll explore how raw, local materials can be transformed into clay bodies, slips, and glazes, all through practical experimentation and collaborative learning.

This workshop is intended for intermediate to advanced participants. Basic hand building skills are required. Electric and gas firings are planned. You will be asked to bring some personal supplies included but not limited to an apron, pottery making tools, ect.

*NEW* Housing available onsite! Students of “Wild Clay: Explore, Experience, Share” may arrange their stay at Starworks' new onsite artist housing for the duration of the workshop. Starworks charming campus, well-equipped studios, and shared eating & living spaces create a community atmosphere conducive to creativity and collaboration.

There are three room options available:

Option A: Larger Private Bedroom with Private Bath - $1,365/week (3 available)

Option B: Smaller Private Bedroom with Private Bath - $1,050/week (2 available)

Option C: Private Bedroom with Shared Bath - $819/week (4 available)

Registrants are welcome to arrive and check-in to housing as early as Wednesday, August 20. Check out will be August 27 following the conclusion of the workshop.

Additional Onsite Housing Details:

  • Option A: 150 sq ft room with private bathroom and shared kitchen

  • Option B: 115 sq ft room with private bathroom and shared kitchen

  • Option C: 130 sq ft room with shared bathroom and shared kitchen

Prices include utilities. No pets are allowed.

All bedrooms rooms have a bed, night shelf, bedside lamp, and clothes rod/shelf. Linens and towels are provided.

The shared kitchen is equipped with refrigerator, electric stove/oven, microwave, dishwasher, and coffee maker. There are silverware, plates, mugs, glasses, pots and pans, etc.

There is a shared kitchen and living area. Entire building equipped with  AC & heat.

En Suite bathrooms have shower, sink, and toilet.  For shared bathrooms, all on 2nd floor, there are two shower rooms and two sink & toilet rooms.

Registrants are welcome to arrive and check in to their housing as early as Wednesday, August 20. Check-out will be August 27, following the conclusion of the workshop.

Discounts and refunds are not available to students who arrive late or depart early from their housing accommodation.
