Experience the excitement of shaping molten glass in this immersive three-day beginner glass blowing workshop. Designed for students with no prior experience, this hands-on class introduces the fundamentals of hot glass studio practice while guiding participants through the process of creating their own blown glass artwork.

Students will learn essential glass blowing techniques including gathering molten glass from the furnace, shaping with hand tools, assisting, and working safely in a hot shop environment. Through demonstrations, guided exercises, and individual instruction, participants will gain confidence handling glass and develop an understanding of timing, heat control, and teamwork at the bench.

Throughout the workshop, students will create a series of simple forms such as paperweights, flowers, and maybe cups or small vessels while exploring the creative possibilities of glass as an artistic medium.

Introduction to glass blowing tools and equipment
Gathering and controlling molten glass
Basic shaping and blowing techniques
Understanding heat, timing, and teamwork
Annealing and finishing processes

Who Should Attend:

Ideal for absolute beginners, artists exploring a new medium, and anyone interested in learning the fundamentals of glass blowing. No experience necessary.

Duration:

3 full days in the hot shop with lunch breaks and time for practice in the evenings.

Materials:
All tools, safety equipment, and materials are provided. Students should wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable cotton clothing suitable for a hot studio environment.

Workshop Dates: August 20 - August 22 (3-days in studio)
Housing available: Register for onsite housing and stay from August 19 through August 23
Cost: $690 per student + housing (if applicable)

The host organization reserves the right to cancel this workshop if the minimum students requirement is not met.

Students may arrange their stay at Starworks onsite artist housing for the duration of the workshop. Starworks charming campus, well-equipped studios, and shared eating & living spaces create a community atmosphere conducive to creativity and collaboration.

  • Option A: 150 sq ft room with private bathroom and shared kitchen

  • Option B: 115 sq ft room with private bathroom and shared kitchen

  • Option C: 130 sq ft room with shared bathroom and shared kitchen

Prices include utilities & wifi. No pets are allowed.

All bedrooms rooms have a bed, night shelf, bedside lamp, and clothes rod/shelf. Linens and towels are provided.

The shared kitchen is equipped with refrigerator, electric stove/oven, microwave, dishwasher, and coffee maker. There are silverware, plates, mugs, glasses, pots and pans, etc.

There is a shared kitchen and living area. Entire building equipped with  AC & heat.

En Suite bathrooms have shower, sink, and toilet.  For shared bathrooms, all on 2nd floor, there are two shower rooms and two sink & toilet rooms.

Discounts and refunds are not available to students who arrive late or depart early from their housing accommodation.
