Each piece by artist Kazuya is unique in color and texture. These bowls include different clays that are carefully blended and tactile textures.

Bowl A is approximately 4.5 inches tall and 7.5 inches wide. This piece has a smooth surface with different colors of clay mixed together.

Bowl B is approximately 6.75 inches tall and has a significant texture on its surface.

Bowl C is the smallest of the three at approximately 3.5 inches tall. This piece has a grooved line texture on its surface.

Kazuya Ishida was born in Bizen, Japan, a town famous for traditional pottery. He uses noborigama and anagama wood fired kilns. He trained with Jun Isezaki (Nation Living Treasure in Bizen) for four years and then spent time in the UK learning different styles of pottery. Kazuya makes sculptures and vases featuring his distinctive spiraling marks, created with a technique inspired by a teenage love of breakdancing. Also, traveling overseas made Kazuya realize the beauty of the natural world. Working with clay from local rice fields and mountains, he makes pieces inspired by shells and rocks. Kazuya was a Clay Resident at STARworks in 2018.
