Momma Molasses (Ella Patrick) is a North Carolina-raised singer-songwriter whose music feels both timeless and deeply personal. Born and raised in Carthage, with roots in Moore County, Patrick grew up surrounded by the sounds of church gospel and family musicianship—early influences that continue to shape her voice and songwriting today.

Now based in Bristol, straddling Virginia and Tennessee, Momma Molasses has built a reputation for her warm contralto voice and a sound that blends old-time, country, folk, and Americana traditions. A true DIY artist and multi-instrumentalist, she often accompanies herself with finger-picked guitar, delivering songs that are at once soulful, intimate, and grounded in Southern Appalachian musical heritage. Her style evokes the spirit of classic artists like Patsy Cline and Mother Maybelle Carter, while remaining distinctly her own—earning her the affectionate moniker of a “Post-Modern Minnie Pearl.”

Her songwriting leans into honest storytelling, exploring themes of heartbreak, resilience, and healing with a disarming sincerity. Whether drawing from personal experience or the broader emotional landscape of the South, her songs carry a quiet strength and vulnerability that resonate with listeners.

Momma Molasses released her debut album, Anthems from a Broken Heart, in 2017, followed by Take Me to the Country in 2023, further establishing her voice within the contemporary roots music scene. A full-time touring musician, she has carved her own path—traveling extensively, often by van, and connecting with audiences through raw, heartfelt performances. In addition to her work on stage, she has contributed behind the scenes as an assistant producer and stage manager with Radio Bristol.

With a sound that bridges past and present, Momma Molasses continues to carry forward the traditions of Southern music while making space for her own story—one song at a time.
