Make Your Own Salt & Pepper Shakers

Ceramic Hand-Building Workshop

Saturday, March 7, 1pm-3pm

Dive into the realm of slab building in this two-hour Salt and Pepper Shaker Set workshop led by Casey Mitchell.

Using a template, each person will build a unique pair of functional salt and pepper shakers. You will be provided with pre-rolled slabs made from Starworks clay, all the necessary tools, a handful of glaze options, a live demonstration, and hands on direction from an artist instructor, Casey Mitchell.

This workshop is open to beginners to learn the fundamentals of working with clay. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a guardian. Minimum student age is 6.

Student work will be dried, fired, and glazed for you after the workshop. Finished pieces will be available for pick-up approximately 1 month after the workshop. Items can be picked up in the School House Gallery during regular business hours, Monday - Saturday, 9am - 5pm. Shipping is available for an additional charge. Payment for shipping is made in person at the School House Gallery during check in. Please arrive 10 minutes prior to your session to check in wearing close toes shoes and clothing suitable for working with clay. Class will be held in the Starworks Clay Studio. Check in at the School House Gallery at Starworks. (Main Entrance) Cancellations must be made at least 7 days prior to class date. Cancellations made after that date will not be refunded.

About your instructor - Casey Mitchell

Casey Mitchell is a potter based in Richmond, Virginia. She attained her BFA in Craft and Material Studies with a material focus in ceramics from Virginia Commonwealth University. Her practice is largely rooted in functionality and subtle design. Since graduating in May of 2025, Casey has been expanding her understanding of clay and glaze properties, firing processes, and alternative building techniques.
