Tommy Edwards and Fiddlin' Al Live at the Cafe

Live music performed by Tommy Edwards & Fiddlin' Al McCanless in the STARworks Cafe and Taproom. They will play a variety of Bluegrass, Old Time & Celtic. Fiddles, banjos, guitars and vocals will be heard. Tommy & Al will focus on songs that tell stories. No admission fee, but tips for the performers are greatly appreciated. All ages welcome! Feel free to bring in takeout or have pizza delivered.

Tommy Edwards is the host of Life 103.1’s “Bluegrass Saturday Night” and the lead singer and guitarist for The Bluegrass Experience, one of the Southeast’s most respected traditional music groups. He was twice named World Champion Bluegrass Guitarist and has recorded or performed live with an array of bluegrass greats, including Jimmy Martin, Bobby Hicks, Peter Rowan, Jimmy Mills, Dan Crary, Jack Lawrence, and Mike Cross. He has recorded four albums with The Bluegrass Experience and has five solo discs. His most recent, “North Carolina: History, Lore and More” was featured in the popular magazine Our State.

Fiddlin' Al McCanless is one of the most versatile NC fiddlers equally at home in Bluegrass, Old Time and Celtic music. He was a founding member of the legendary New Deal String Band. He played many years with the Bluegrass Experience, which won the World Champion Bluegrass prize at the Union Grove Old Time Fiddlers Convention. Al appeared on the first Red Clay Rambler recording on Folkways Record, "The Red Clay Ramblers With Fiddlin' Al McCanless". Al plays in the Celtic group Contentment is Wealth and The Merry Gadflies, a string band specializing in songs of freedom, joy and justice. In his spare time Al is potter and open-back banjo maker.
